5 Things to do in Marlow with the kids

Marlow is a great place to stay if you have little ones in tow. The Thameside town is on the doorstep of some fabulous family-friendly attractions, so when you stay at our hotel in Buckinghamshire we’re sure you’ll find something to keep their imaginative minds occupied come rain or shine.

We’ve pulled together a list of our five favourites, featuring animal magic and some splashing good times. Add these excursions to your itinerary and you’ll have the kids beaming with delight. Best of all, they’re no more than just a short drive away from The Chequers, our boutique hotel in Marlow…

1. Roald Dahl Museum 

From Charlie And The Chocolate Factory to Matilda or The Witches, Roald Dahl’s stories have kept kids captivated for generations. At the Roald Dahl Museum, you can come face to face with some of his literary creations and step foot into his famous writing hut, where he crafted all of his weird and wonderful characters. It’s just a 30-minute drive from our hotel in Marlow, and tickets cost £7.40 for adults or £4.90 for children. 

2. Go Ape

If you want to give your little monkeys a taste of the high life, take them on a trip to Go Ape. This outdoor activity centre has a series of tree-top challenges featuring wobbly bridges, zip lines and dizzying obstacle courses. But if the mere sound of that is enough to give you vertigo, keep your feet closer to the ground and take a forest Segway tour. Located in Black Park, Go Ape is less than half an hour from our hotel in Marlow. 

3. Abbotts View Alpacas

Ever been up close and personal with an alpaca? Now’s your chance! Abbots View Alpacas is a family-run farm where these friendly, inquisitive animals are the star attraction. Book ahead to schedule a walk around the 22-acre farm with the alpacas and prepare to make lots of soft, woolly friends over the course of a couple of hours. Abbotts View Alpacas is less than an hour’s drive from our hotel in Buckinghamshire.

4. Longridge Activity Centre

Not far from our boutique hotel in Marlow, the Longridge Activity Centre has everything you need for messing about on the river. This Thameside attraction offers kayaking, paddle boarding, dragon boating and plenty more besides. Activities last for 90 minutes and all the necessary kit is provided. We’re sure you’ll have a totally oar-some day out. 

5. Thames boat trip

Take a leisurely trip on Salters Steamers from Marlow to Henley and enjoy some of the river route’s quintessentially English views. You’ll pass stately homes and manor houses such as Bisham Abbey and Culham Court, as well as scenic spots including Temple Island before spending an hour in the town made famous by the Royal Regatta. Return tickets cost £8.50 for adults and £5.50 for children.
