Best pub snacks after a walk in the Chilterns

Marlow is home to some of the best pubs in Buckinghamshire, including our very own: The Churchill Tap.

This is good news because if you’ve been out on a long walk soaking up beautiful Buckinghamshire’s ravishing rural scenery, there’s no better way to refuel than supping a pint of craft ale and gorging on a good old-fashioned pub snack.

We may be biased but we think The Churchill Tap has the best snacks of all the pubs in Marlow so we thought we’d list our favourites to prove it. Best of all, ours is a dog-friendly pub, so we even offer treats catering to canine tastes…

1. Scotch egg

What’s not to love about the Scotch egg? It’s a Great British picnic classic. But if you thought it couldn’t be improved, you might want to think again. The Scotch egg on offer in our Marlow pub has been elevated to a whole new level of lip-smacking loveliness, with smokey chorizo added into the mix. Slice it in half, let that still-runny yolk ooze onto the plate and enjoy. And then probably order another, you’re only human.

2. (Posh) ploughman’s

Once you’ve returned from a day marvelling at the majesty of the Buckinghamshire countryside, you may be in the mood for something more refined. In which case we should point out that our cheeseboard is up there with the best, mixing the soft, the creamy and the crumbly with crackers and sides. Think of it as a posh ploughman’s, and there aren’t many pubs in Marlow who can match it.

3. Steak and Kidney Pie

The steak and kidney pie has stood the test of time for a reason. Melt-in-the-mouth meat combined with dark brown gravy and a crispy pastry case is a seriously tempting option after a long day out on the trails – and let’s be honest, you’ll probably need the calories. If steak and kidney’s not your preferred flavour, our Marlow pub also offers beef and onion or chicken and mushroom.

4. Sausage roll

There are few better ways to build up an appetite than spending the day in the fresh country air. By the end of it, you’ll have a hankering for something savoury and may find you only have eyes for our iconic sausage roll. As wide as it is long, this is streets ahead of your average pork-filled pasty, and we’re sure there’s no better snack to pair with a pint of the foamy stuff.

…And for your canine companion: Denzil’s Dog Treats

The Churchill Tap is a dog-friendly pub in Marlow – we welcome pooches of all sizes. And we know that if you’ve been out walking in the nearby Chilterns, your four-legged friend is going to need some refreshments too. That’s why we stock a range of doggie treats behind the bar, made by our friends at Denzil’s. They contain natural ingredients and are even suitable for dogs with sensitive tummies!
